Rescue Recovery on Budd Lake with NJ State Police
Monday January 7th around 6:25 pm Budd Lake fire and Rescue Squads responded to the Sandshore road side of Budd Lake for people yelling for help. Two people that were outside herd the cries for help and attempted to rescue them but due to cracking ice and darkness they directed fire crews to the location where they herd the cries for help. Rescues crews with ice suits and special gear made their way to the spot and searched for three hours rotating crews in and out. Sadly the search was called off at 9:30 pm and a recovery mission was started the next day at 8:00 am. The NJ State Police dives teams spent the next two days in and out of the frozen waters using sonar and other high tec. devises. Then news that broke the hearts of all township residents was that two bodies were found both 15 years old boys who fell through the ice after ice fishing. One boy was found on Tuesday and the second on Wednesday Over the three day period several area dive and ice rescue teams assisted in the search as well as the Morris County Prosecutors and Mutual Aid Coordinators office, NJ State Police and Mt. Olive Police. Photo's by Kevin MaloneyRead More
