Independence Twp. Fully Involved in the woods
Sunday night May 8th just after 8:00 pm Independence and Hackettstown Fire Companies were dispatched to Buck hill Rd off of Grand Ave for the fully involved structure fire. First in chiefs found a vacant house well off, due to a low train bridge running through the woods only brush trucks could get to the fire. Independence’s brush unit was the first in and started to draft from a pond next to the house, a special call for Mansfield Fire for there quick attack pumper was second in and stretched hand lines from that and started knocking down the fire. Forest Fire was also dispatched for a large amount of woods burning as well but the half-mile road in was full of mud and rocks making getting to the scene tuff. Oxford Fire was called in for their ATV’s so equipment could get in and out safely. The crews were on scene for several hours hitting hot spots. Photos by Kevin MaloneyRead More
